by The Sims 4 has released a free update that adds top surgical scars, binders and shapewear, and medical wearables to the base game. It’s a huge step forward for the game’s inclusivity, which will delight disabled and transgender fans.
Added in today’s new patch, The Sims 4The Create A Sim Character Creator now offers a top surgical scar, which can be found in the new Body Scars subcategory of the Body category. Players can add the Top Surgical Scar to any male Sim aged teens or older, regardless of whether their base body model is male or female. Upper surgical scars indicate that the person has undergone surgery to remove their breasts.

Gender-affirming clothing items have also been added The Sims 4 for the first time. The game’s new binder can be found in the Tops category of Create A Sim, which is categorized under Tanks, while Shapewear is categorized as Underwear in the Bottoms section. These clothing options are commonly used by transgender and non-binary people to help them alleviate gender dysphoria.
These are important additions too The Sims 4. The game’s character creation has allowed players to mix and match male and female traits regardless of gender since 2016, and updates last year allowed players to choose Sims’ sexual orientations and pronouns. However, today’s update marks the first time that Create A Sim includes such obvious and explicit physical indicators of trans identities on characters’ bodies.

These weren’t the only included upgrades in The Sims 4‘s update of January 31st(Opens in a new window). The game also added medical wearables, specifically hearing aids and blood glucose meters.
Found under the new “Medical Wearables” subcategory in the “Create a Sim Face” customization menu, The Sims 4The hearing aids from can be given to all Sims who are toddlers or older. They come in 15 different colors so super-stylish Sims can match their hearing aid to their outfit, and can be placed in Sims’ right ear, left ear, or both.
Glucose meters can be found in the new Medical Wearables subcategory in the Body category and are available to Sims of child age and older. Like The Sims 4‘s Hearing Aids offer some customization to these medical devices, allowing players to attach them to a Sim’s right or left arm or lower abdomen.

All The Sims 4The new perks of are purely aesthetic additions, so your Sims won’t experience hearing problems if you remove their hearing aids. Likewise the folders of the game doesn’t really crush Sims’ chests(Opens in a new window)and their categorization as tops means Sims can’t wear shirts over them like tie wearers would in real life.
That doesn’t make the additions any less meaningful, however, so players can at least see themselves represented in the popular life sim in a little more detail.
The lack of functionality of the new items also means that Sims can wear pads 24/7 without any negative impact on their health(Opens in a new window)hence it could be seen as an improvement over reality, at least in some areas.

The Sims 4‘s update added other improvements to the console gamer’s experience, such as: B. the ability to make their cursor larger and keep the build mode catalog open while players grab and move items. While most of the attention is understandably focused squarely on the game’s new inclusive content, these are some great quality of life additions for anyone playing on Xbox or PlayStation.
