- GOP Rep. Mike Turner said President Biden was a “serial hoarder of classified documents” after more documents were found in his home.
- The DOJ said it found more than half a dozen documents during its search of Biden’s Wilmington home.
- Turner previously suggested that Donald Trump had hundreds of secret documents at Mar-a-Lago to help him write his memoir.
Republican Rep. Mike Turner, who suggested that former President Donald Trump may have taken classified documents for the purpose of writing a memoir, had tougher words for President Joe Biden.
Justice Department investigators said Friday that their search of Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, found more than half a dozen documents, some classified, the New York Times reported. Some documents are from his time as a senator, others from his time as vice president.
“Apparently he’s become a serial hoarder of classified documents,” Turner said of Biden Sunday morning “Face of the Nation” on CBS News. “Why did he have these? Who did he show them to? I mean the only reason you can think of why someone would take secret documents out of a secret room and take them home is to show someone.”
Turner, the leading Republican and likely future chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, also questioned whether the recovered documents were “connected to the Biden family business.”

Biden’s document drama began in November when his lawyers revealed they found a “small number” of classified documents in Biden’s offices at his Washington think tank, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. Additional documents were found in his Wilmington garage on Dec. 20, and five other documents were found in the storage room near the garage in January, Insider previously reported.
In comparison, in August, the FBI uncovered 11 sets of classified documents during a search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. Since leaving office, around 300 secret documents belonging to Trump have been seized; It’s currently unclear exactly how many documents were found in Biden’s, according to the Associated Press.
When the FBI seized about 20 boxes of documents from Trump’s estate in August, Turner suggested Trump may have brought the documents to his home to write a memoir.
“Well, I don’t know. I mean you have to ask him. But surely we all know that every former president has access to his documents. That’s how they write their memoirs,” Turner said, Insider previously reported. “They don’t have, you know, a great memory of everything that happened in their administration.”
He added at the time that he would be surprised if Trump’s collection of documents “reached the level of an imminent threat to national security.”
Both incidents have prompted special counsel investigations, but Turner seemed more concerned about Biden’s classified documents.
“I think this looks more like a cover-up than an investigation,” Turner said of the DOJ’s search of Biden’s home.
