Aaron Rodgers trades rumours: Sauce Gardner nudges QB over Jets pairing; Davante Adams teases Raiders reunion

Aaron Rodgers has yet to decide if he will return for a 19th NFL season, but if he does we know at least one team that would like him and another that likely won’t be in the running. Days after ESPN reported that the Packers would prefer to move from star quarterback in 2023, Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner Rodgers (then deleted) tweeted and suggested he might be interested in bringing his talents to East Rutherford brings.

“Aye @AaronRodgers12? Nvm I forgot what I wanted to say,” read the first tweet.

Gardner followed up his initial tweet by saying, “I’ve been trollin y’all. Relax yourself.”

New York was a popular pairing for Rodgers if he were to leave Green Bay. The Jets have a roster ready to compete in 2023, but the quarterback position is currently holding them back. The insertion of Rodgers would make her an instant force in the AFC East and could be good for the development of Zach Wilson, who is close to the veteran QB and could lean under him no matter how long his tenure lasts.

Meanwhile, Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams teased Thursday that Rodgers will be moving to Las Vegas soon. Hours later, Rodgers himself may have ruled out a separate goal, joking during the CBS broadcast of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am that he won’t be playing for the 49ers.

“Any news you’d like to share with us?” pro golfer Colt Knost jokingly asked Rodgers as the quarterback prepared for his next hole on the course. The reigning NFL MVP smiled, paused, and then seemingly shut out his childhood team.

“I’m not going to San Fran,” Rodgers said.

The 49ers have primarily spent this week discussing their QB situation, which has seen both Trey Lance and Brock Purdy recovering from serious injuries. Coach Kyle Shanahan definitely said that former starter Jimmy Garoppolo, a 2023 free agent, will not be back on the team. But apparently San Francisco, which reportedly tried to take over Rodgers before calling up Lance in 2021, won’t be back in the A-Rod market. Then again, it’s possible that the 49ers are indeed interested in Rodgers, but that Green Bay turned down their requests to keep Rodgers out of the NFC assuming he’s not back with the Packers.

Earlier Thursday, Adams stirred speculation about a move west, but to Vegas. The longtime Packers star wide receiver, whose 2022 trade left Rodgers and company without proven weapons for much of the season, vowed to answer fan questions on Twitter. One asked what neighborhood Rodgers was moving into, and Adams’ response left little room for interpretation: “Mine.”

The Raiders and their own longtime quarterback, Derek Carr, have already publicly announced a split, so Las Vegas is likely to be actively looking for a new signal caller. They were a logical candidate to pursue Tom Brady had the former Patriots and Buccaneers star not announced his retirement this week. But with Brady off the table, Rodgers could be the next best target via trade.
