by The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards have arrived, celebrating (and snubbing) the best films of 2022.
Everything everywhere at once leads the field with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and four acting nominations. Other front runners are The Banshees by Inisherin and nothing new in the Westboth with nine nominations each.
However, this year’s nominees could be outweighed by some truly egregious omissions. The historical epic by Gina Prince-Bythewood The Woman King was completely disqualified, as was Jordan Peeles nope. Danielle Deadwyler, the heart of Chinonye Chukwu until (also disqualified) was snubbed in the Best Actress category when, by all appearances, she should have been a front-runner. With these snubs, the academy continues to fail black filmmakers.
